summer seminar

This summer I went on a trip to South Dakota with some students and teachers from my school. After a 15 or so hour drive I found myself in one of the most unique places on earth.

the vans which took 25 students and 5 teachers to South Dakota

Wounded Kneed - the spot where about a hundred Indians were murdered by the US army. Our groups stopped to eat lunch and discuss the fundamental problem of evil on earth. Often times we, as Americans, don't realize that injustice isn't just something that happens in other countries.

Our first night in South Dakota our guide, Caleb, took us to spot where we could watch the sun set.

One of my favorite part of our trip was a visit to a buffalo ranch. We read the book

Buffalo for the Broken Hearted
and then visited the ranch of the author. Dan O'Brien, the author, told us about how buffalo can be used to bring back destroyed prairies of South Dakota. He is a part of Wild idea, a project which sells buffalo meat as a way to keep buffalo on the prairies.

He gave us all buffalo burger at lunch (they were really good). Buffalo meat is healthy and doesn't contain much fat.
